Objectives

Overarching Principles and Objectives:

The STIRRHS Program is grounded in the following overarching principles:

  1. Excellence in research.
  2. Transdisciplinarity as an essential characteristic of the research-training environment based on the sharing of pedagogical material, expertise and paradigms.
  3. Integration of a gender perspective into all aspects of the program.
  4. Participation of community groups concerned by reproductive health problems.

In accordance with these principles, the specific objectives of STIRRHS are:

  1. To promote excellence in research training in the reproductive health sciences at all phases of professional and scientific education.
  2. To increase the appreciation of research methodology in the reproductive healthcare workplace and to promote knowledge transfer to health care providers, policy makers and consumers.
  3. To promote the recruitment and retention of outstanding Canadian and international trainees in research in the reproductive health sciences.
  4. To promote integrity and the responsible conduct of research and professional practice.
  5. To create a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in the reproductive health sciences and a co-ordinated policy of information management and knowledge diffusion.
  6. To broaden the focus of reproductive health research by developing and disseminating a theoretical and a practical model for transdisciplinary research training.
  7. To ensure that the selection of professors and trainees reflects a gender balance and to ensure that the curriculum design, as well as the pedagogical methodologies, integrate a gender perspective.
