The physiological relationship between the mother and fetus is mediated by the placenta. The placenta is crucial for nutrient and gas exchange that ultimately controls the growth and viability of the fetus. A cytoplasmic, focal adhesion-associated, serine/threonine kinase named integrin-linked kinase is known to be a regulator of cell-ECM and cell-cell adhesion. His research program is testing the hypothesis that integrin-linked kinase regulates the differentiation of trophoblast cells during human placental development.
Dr. Daniel MacPhee, Le placenta est le médiateur de la relation physiologique entre la mère et le nouveau né. Le placenta est crucial pour les nutriments et l’échange de gaz qui contrôlent le développement et la viabilité du fœtus. Une kinase serine/threonine, cytoplasmique associée à une adhésion focale, nommée integrin-linked kinase est connue comme régulateur de la cellule -ECM et l’adhésion cellule - cellule. Le programme de recherche teste l’hypothèse que l’integrin-linked kinase contrôle la différentiation du trophoblaste cellulaire durant le développement placentaire humain.
