Multidisciplinary Co-supervision

To facilitate transdisciplinarity we encourage the candidate to have a Co-supervisor. The Research Supervisor’s and the Co-Supervisor’s profile must manifest the complementarity (different disciplines) required to cover the transdisciplinary aspects of the training and/or the research project of the candidate. Thus, a different discipline or field of expertise is expected for each supervisor. At least one of them must be a STIRRHS Mentor.

Research project

  • The student’s transdisciplinary research project must be based on a reproductive health issue related to one of STIRRHS’ priority themes: preterm birth, preeclampsia, assisted reproductive technologies, at risk-sexual behaviour, and appropriate use of obstetrical technologies.
  • The research project should cover at least 2 or more of the CIHR pillars (biomedical research, clinical research, health care organisations, population health research, social and cultural aspects of health and environmental influence on health).
  • The research question should be grounded in the concerns of an identified health community, with an explicit plan to interact with that community in the course of research training.

Minimum required academic average

  • MSc or PhD students must have as a minimum a academic average of B+ or equivalent preceding admission to STIRRHS program;
  • Evaluation of Post graduate students and Fellows will be based on their research curriculum and transcripts.

Financial support

  • Matching Funds :
    The majority of scholarships will be in the form of partnerships between STIRRHS and collaborating universities. Certain departments in collaborating universities have already committed to provide matching funds. If a department has not made a prior commitment to provide matching funds to STIRRHS students, then the applicant should seek such a commitment from the department. The availability of matching funds through the collaborating institution will enhance the probability of success of the applicant. The usual level of matching funds is 50% of the value of the scholarship.
  • Non Matching Funds :
    A limited number of STIRRHS scholarships will be available without matching funds (complete scholarship). These scholarships are available for students in priority areas for STIRRHS (social sciences, nursing, community health or health administration).

Conversely, STIRRHS financial support is not required for admission to the transdisciplinary program.
